I've gotten used to the occassional sounds of heavy artillery since moving within a few miles of one of Fort Sills impact zones that are frequently the targets of rocket assisted projectiles and I haven't heard any mention of strays so I was never really concerned about their practice sessions.image

This week they brought in a couple of new toys, one of which, the railgun has me wondering. An article in the local paper stated that the target for the railgun demonstration, a connex transport container, was not hit directly. The projectile hit a berm in front of the container and ricocheted into the target. I'm a little leary of super-sonic projectiles bouncing off their backstops.
