Videos of Competition on Youtube
I have finally edited the video footage of the competition from 4/16/11. However, not all the games are shown, nor are they shown at real time.
Hopefully they will help out people who are looking to start up competitions of their own.
I really wish that I had been able to capture audio, but it was not clear enough to use.
At the start of each round, the line judge gets things going.
1. Shooters to the line! - those shooting in the match hang their scorecard on the target stands, and then procedure to their shooting line (4 meter, 5 meter, etc.)
2. Safety Glasses on! - No one is allowed to shoot or enter the shooting range without safety glasses.
3. Call your targets! - This allows for all shooters to know exactly where they are shooting and prevents crossfire issues.
4. Range Open! - This starts the timer for shooting 5 darts and the cleaning of the blowguns. 3 minutes is the maximum time for this portion. Technically, no darts are to be loaded into the guns before this point. When the shooters have shot & cleaned, the blowguns are set down to indicate the shooters are finished for the round.
5. Range Closed! - No more darts may be shot at this point. The shooters adavance to the range, record the number of darts in each circle of the target. Then the score cards are swapped with another shooter to verify the information. After the darts have been verified, the shooters may remove the darts from the target. Questionable darts (usually darts that have hit the line) can be verified by a line judge before removal. After darts are removed, the shooter return to the line, and the line judge begins with step 1 again. There is a maximum time of 2 minutes for this portion of the round.
6. After the match, the shooters calculate their score, and have 2 other people verify it. If the score has met the requirements of the next rank, the shooter is award the rank & title, and allowed to shoot at the next distance.
We have just begun enforcing the time limits, but have not yet added penalties for exceeding the 2 minutes. We are also trying to get the next group of shooters ready to put up their scorecards as soon as the previous groups clears the range. This should help on downtime between matches. Also, if there is less than 3 signatures on the score sheet (the shooters & 2 verifiers), then the score will be not be published!
Why that is absolutely awesome bro and think it will help stimulate the sport. Once I get finished with the new shopping cart, remind me and I'll put a little info up on our blowgun info page and links to your video site there if you would like. I'm sure there will be many more vid's to follow.
Right now I am backed up to the kazoo with web-work and business but will get this in eventually. It will bring you a ton of traffic too. Lookin good there.
Thank you! I'm planning to get some more footage this Saturday, including the new blowguns from you! They arrived today & I know a few shooters who are greatly looking forward to getting their guns!
Need any testimonies? :)
Great job on the videos, Josh. Very good work. Thanks.
Great vids, Josh! And I especially like the "commands" that line judges call...it appeals to the martial artist in me.
This has been a very informative post. Thank you so much!
I'm glad to be able to help out!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them.
I may not be the top shooter in the US, but I think I'm currently hosting the largest competitions at the moment. Most of my shooters are young men, but we have been gaining a few older shooters and a few females as well. Hopefully, this Saturday's competition will be the biggest yet.
I'm hoping to get footage of a single 2-round game with good audio, so I can post it real time with sound. I am also hoping to get different viewing angles to help show some of our shooting stances, and techniques.
Does anyone have something specific they want to see?
